The JPRWEE program continues to make strong progress across more than 30 communities in Tongatapu, Haʻapai, and ʻEua, with a focus on empowering rural women’s groups. Coastal urban communities such as Popua, Patangata, and Sopu were also included as beneficiaries due to their limited soil for gardening. Over 75 truckloads of topsoil were delivered to support home gardens and increase food resilience. Special thanks to IFAD for funding this initiative and supporting community-driven income and food security efforts.

The JPRWEE program continues to flourish across Tongatapu, Haʻapai, and ʻEua, reaching more than 30 communities and focusing on empowering women’s groups in rural areas. Through training, support, and sustainable livelihood initiatives, the program strengthens household food resilience and creates opportunities for income generation. By prioritizing women at the grassroots level, JPRWEE contributes to long-term community stability and enhanced food security.
While the program primarily targets rural communities, coastal communities in urban Tongatapu—such as Popua, Patangata, and Sopu—were also fortunate to be included as beneficiaries. Due to their limited natural soil, these areas often struggle with home gardening and food production. To address this challenge, the program delivered more than 75 truckloads (5 tonnes each) of topsoil to support home gardening activities, enabling families to grow their own vegetables and improve their nutrition and resilience.
We extend our sincere appreciation to IFAD for funding the JPRWEE program and supporting these important community efforts. Their contribution continues to uplift vulnerable households, promote food security, and empower women to lead sustainable development initiatives in their communities.
