An important milestone has been reached as the Climate Resilience Island (CRI) Project is officially handed over to the communities of ʻEua. This moment marks not only the completion of a major initiative, but also the beginning of a new chapter led by the communities themselves — one grounded in resilience, sustainability, and local ownership.

Over the course of the project, communities across ʻEua have worked closely with partners, local leaders, and stakeholders to strengthen their ability to respond to the growing impacts of climate change. Through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and community-driven action, the project has helped empower local people with the tools, skills, and confidence needed to build a more resilient future.

The handover symbolizes far more than infrastructure or completed activities. It represents strengthened community leadership, increased preparedness, and a shared commitment to protecting livelihoods, natural resources, and future generations. Communities are now better equipped to improve food security, support sustainable ecosystem restoration, and manage local resources in ways that promote long-term resilience.

Key activities throughout the project focused on strengthening local systems and encouraging practical, community-based solutions to climate challenges. These efforts included supporting ecosystem restoration initiatives, promoting sustainable land and resource management practices, and encouraging stronger participation from community groups in resilience planning and decision-making.

The success of the CRI Project in ʻEua has been made possible through the dedication and commitment of community members, government representatives, local stakeholders, and development partners who contributed their time, knowledge, and support throughout the journey. Their collective efforts have helped create stronger foundations for communities to continue leading resilience efforts well into the future.

As the project is officially handed over, the communities of ʻEua now carry forward the vision and responsibility of sustaining and building upon these achievements. The knowledge, partnerships, and systems established through the CRI Project will continue to support local resilience efforts for years to come.

Together, we are building stronger, safer, and more climate-resilient island communities for present and future generations.
