Our Build Back Safer program is making a real difference in Hala'ovave, strengthening homes and communities in vulnerable coastal areas of Tongatapu. Through the support of MFAT and Habitat for Humanity NZ, families are gaining safer, more resilient shelter. This initiative empowers communities at the grassroots level, promoting long-term resilience and security.

Another successful milestone has been achieved under our Build Back Safer program as part of the Habitat for Humanity NZ Negotiated Partnership Phase 1 at Halaovave. The program continues to focus on enhancing shelter resilience in the most vulnerable homes located in the urban coastal areas of Tongatapu. By addressing the needs of those at greatest risk, we are helping to ensure that families have safer and more secure living spaces.

This initiative is more than just building homes—it is about empowering communities. By involving residents in the process and raising awareness about safe construction practices, the program equips local communities with the knowledge and skills needed to protect their homes from future natural hazards. The emphasis on grassroots engagement ensures that the benefits are sustainable and long-lasting.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our main donor and partner, MFAT, and to Habitat for Humanity NZ, whose financial support has been critical in bringing this vision to life. Their commitment allows us to reach more families and continue promoting shelter resilience in Tonga. Their partnership demonstrates the impact of collaborative efforts between government agencies and non-profit organizations.

Looking ahead, the Build Back Safer program remains dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities across Tongatapu. Each completed home represents not only physical safety but also hope, stability, and an improved quality of life for families. Through continued collaboration and community involvement, we aim to expand the reach of this program and make resilient housing accessible to even more families in need.
